Announcing 2020 Arts & Culture 2020 Grants
In November 2020, the Board of Directors approved 80 grants totaling $1,135,000 in support of Arts & Culture organizations in the greater Kansas City area.
Highlights from a list of grants to mid-to-large arts organizations for $885,000 include a continued emphasis on innovative audience development, arts integration and contributions to an arts ecology as reflected in the following:
- Mattie Rhodes received a grant of $35,000 to support the Latino Cultural Arts Program.
- The Performing Arts Series at Johnson County Community College (JCCC) received a grant of $15,000 for audience development and annual support.
- Continued funding of the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art with a grant of $75,000 for school and educator services, which facilitates learning experiences inspired by art objects for PreK-12 students and teachers.
The Foundation also continued funding of the Small Arts Grant Program, which recognizes arts organizations with revenues of $300,000 or less and non-arts organizations with arts programming. With grants ranging from $1,000 to $10,000, 48 organizations received funds totaling $250,000. These include $10,000 grants to the Kansas Academy of Theatrical Arts, Traditional Music Society, and Literacy Kansas City. Other deserving organizations with grass roots arts programming included, Arts in Prison, the Black Repertory Theatre of KC, Interurban Art House, and Rightfully Sewn to support the Seamstress Training Program.
